How Short is Too Short?

By Kayla, age 19, Pennsylvania

It seems these days that less is more when it comes to the length of clothing, that is, the less skirt and the more skin the better. All you have to do is turn on the TV or look in a magazine, and you see various celebrities getting in and out of their cars in skimpy clothes, leaving nothing to the imagination.

In school the rule of thumb was that if you put your arms straight down, and the bottom of your skirt, shorts, or dress came past your longest finger, then it was considered appropriate. However, I think this rule is often overlooked and not very well enforced.

You should always want to look your best. After all, first impressions are everything. What kind of message are you sending if people can see more then they care to? Trashy is not a good look for anyone. I'm not saying you have to dress conservatively with skirts down to your knees. I definitely don't. Just don't end up like Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears.

I have a simple fix if your skirt or dress is too short - simply add a pair of leggings. They come in all colors and styles, so there's a pair for everything. Plus they happen to be really in style now so you can't go wrong.
