Sweet & Simple Sugar Scrub

By Ciara, age 13, New Jersey

This "Sweet and Simple Sugar Scrub" (try saying that 5 times fast!) is just what the name says. It is an easy and fast, yet effective exfoliant! It is fun to use and make, especially when you're pressed for time.

Yield: about 16 oz (about 1 application, depending on how much you use)
Prep Time: about 5 minutes
Lasts: about 6 months to a year if contained right

Ingredients:

1 cup of sugar (white, brown, or a combination)
1/2 cup of olive oil (or other vegetable oil if this is not available)
Optional: 2 drops of vanilla or almond flavor extract (for scent)

Directions:

1. Combine the sugar and oil in a container and mix until a pasty consistency forms. Add your extract (or leave it unscented if you want to!) Stir to combine.

2. To use, just massage gently over damp skin to lightly exfoliate your skin. Do not use on broken, irritated or scarred skin. This mixture will keep for 6 months to a year. To maximize shelf life, keep it in an airtight glass container to slow oxidation of the oil.

Enjoy!!
