On the Cover - Meet Cara

Cara: Respecting Nature & Havin' Fun

On this month's cover we feature Cara, age 14, from California, our newest SDM Featured Writer. Cara joined the magazine staff in May 2007, recently completing her Gold Star qualifying 10th published article. Cara's articles pop up in various categories, including Fun Stuff, Entertainment, Health, and even Fashion. She has deep convictions regarding environmental issues and animal rights, as evidenced in December 2007's "Go Faux!" I never know what kind of article I'll get from Cara, but that's what makes her interesting, fun, and a valuable part of the Sweet Designs team.

When I asked Cara about her interests, she replied, "Horoscopes, tangerines, the many different dishes that involve potatoes, rainbow print suspenders, indie films, laughter and applause, poetry that doesn't rhyme, red iPods, unlined journals, magic 8 balls telling you what you want to hear, computer lingo, and animal rights, of course!" Now that's what I call eclectic!

Cara's most important values are respecting non-human animals and getting a good education. Her goals are to go to college and also to become "an extremely indie / underground singer nobody has really heard of". I love it!!
