De-Stress Your Life

By Chelsea, age 14, Virginia

Stressed? Tell me about it. My family has such a busy life that we eat all of our meals in the car. I'm a cheerleader and track member, and my mom works as a teacher while attending grad school. She's in her last semester so right now she's also working on an internship in the afternoons. This makes my life VERY stressful! But too much stress is not good for you. It can lower your grades, cause acne, cause fights with your friends, and make you sick. Here are a few tips on de-stressing:

- Don't sweat the small stuff. So you left your science project at home. It's okay, your teacher will understand. Don't let small stuff get you upset, because when something big does happen, you're going to pop a blood vessel!

- Take 10 minutes out of your day to relax. Lie on your sofa with a warm washcloth over your eyes and chill. Just think about your day, and I swear after those 10 minutes you'll feel better.

- Talk to someone. Whether it's your best friend, school guidance counselor, therapist, your mom - anyone. Just let everything out about your life. You will cry, and you will laugh, but the stress that it was causing will disappear. You'll feel 2 tons lighter.

- And always remember to laugh: Studies show that people with a sense of humor have less stress than ones who never crack a smile. So show those pearly whites and laugh your butt off!

I hope my tips help you to de-stress! Let me know how they worked.
