Overweight?

By Gia, age 16 (Guest Contributor)

Who's to judge whether you're overweight or not? Doctors? Parents? Friends? Teachers? NO! The only person who has the ability to determine that is you. So maybe you're not the 100 pound, flat stomached, full six pack girl you've always dreamed of being. Guess what? You're just as fabulous as any of them.

Worried about love handles? Wear a shirt that flatters your arms and chest, but is flowy on the bottom. Think your thighs are too big? Show them off! There's nothing more attractive than a nice set of muscular thighs in a cute pair of shorts. Don't have much of a chest? Wear a shirt cinched under the chest to make your bust appear fuller. Don't change yourself to fit clothes. There are clothes that flatter every body shape and size, so don't give up!!

Weight becoming a problem? Whether it's a health problem or a problem within yourself, there are healthy and safe ways to shed those few extra pounds.

DON'T

Purge or starve yourself. It actually makes things worse. Starving yourself will make your body weak, and will start eating away at your muscles after burning off the fat. This will slowly, but sadly end up killing you. And we all know that's not the way to go. Purging will burn the lining of your esophagus and stain your teeth. Not fun, right?

DO

Eat healthy, run, jog, and take your dog for a walk. Being on a diet isn't necessarily the only way to lose weight. By just eating healthy you can tone that tummy, and keep yourself healthy. No need for pesky calorie counts. Just eat what is good for you, and maybe skip seconds. Just remember, weight is only a number. It's how you look and feel that really counts. So be happy with who you are, no matter how big or small.
