Texas Girls Know Hot!

By Kristyn, age 17, Texas

It's May. And where I am, it's HOT.

But even as oppressive as our good buddy the sun is, there are ways to pull yourself out from under those harmful UV rays, and look good doing it!

When persuing your wardrobe during the summer, pick light colors. Darker colors absorb the sunlight and draw it in, effectively making you hotter (and not in the good kind of way ;]). Light and heat bounce off the lighter colors - plus, a sunny yellow or pastel pink will make you look cute and perky!

In addition to color choice, be sure to select fabrics that are light and breezy. When it's sidewalk-melting hot outside, nobody wants their clothes sticking to them in an unflattering manner. Wouldn't you rather be that cool and collected girl while the rest of 'em are sweaty and sticky?

Believe it or not, even the way you wear your hair can make a difference. About 40% of your body heat leaves through your head - imagine your hair soaking all of that up! A high ponytail that keeps your hair off your neck will leave you much cooler and much happier.

Speaking of hot heads, you could be looking real snazzy in a super cool wide-brimmed hat. These are amazing in what they do for you in the extreme sunshine. They keep the sun off your fair face and out of your gorgeous eyes, and the back of your neck cool and safeguarded from sunburn. Plus, they just look awesome!

So, there you are. A couple hints and tips for looking and feeling cool when the earth is flaming hot. Have a happy summer! :D
