7 Cool Ways to Get Money
& Still Keep Your Summer Freedom

By Tramaine, age 14, North Carolina

Ok, it's summer and you're ready to go spend some money ... but Oops! You forgot ... you don't have any! At least not of your own, and your parents aren't going to give you any. So you ask yourself, "How can I make money and still have my summer freedom?" Lucky you. I have some answers!

1. Babysit. Not all the time, just sometimes. Find someone who needs a babysitter here and there, and let them know they can call you whenever they need a break!

2.Cutting grass. I know, it know sounds like a guy thing, but hey, look on the bright side. You'll have money and you'll still have your freedom!! (And guys are equal to girls, right?)

3. Grocery shopping. If one of your family members or neighbors doesn't have time to do their shopping, you can do it for them ... for a small fee. [:

4. Pet sitting. Do you love animals? Well, there's a job for you! During the summer people leave for vacation, but they have one problem ... they can't take their pets! There you are ... right on time to help!

5. Extra chores. This is one of the easiest ways to earn extra money during the summer! Ask your parents what you can do to help out around the house, but remind them ... extra chores come with extra money! [:

6. Car wash. Yep, you read right!! I said Car Wash. Some people don't have time to wash their car or want to wash their car!! So you do it for them ... but remind them - it's not for free! [=

7. Mother's helper. So your mom has a lot of stuff to do! But she can't be in fifty places at one time ... that's where you come in! Ask if you can help her with errands she needs to get done so that you can earn a little money to spend. Other mothers with young children may want your services too!

Get the Word Out

Make signs or flyers listing everything you're willing to do to help out, from babysitting to shopping to cutting grass, etc., and put your phone number and/or email and price ranges. Then use them to spread the word.

Well, those are just a few ways to make money during the summer while still having freedom. Hope I helped, and good luck! [ :
