For the Love of Photography

By Christina, age 17, Louisiana

There's a certain love for art that no one can deny. Aside from the fact that most is unique or unusual (in order to be art, in my opinion, it should be either one or the other), it nearly always has this beautiful touch that makes it complete. Photography is a type of art that expresses each of the said attributes, and at the same time, can do it by taking something out of the ordinary world and making it seem like it has originated from another.

If you want to look closely, any form of creativity can pretty much manipulate one thing into something different or take something nonexistent and push it into being. It's the one thing that attracts me to the field. It offers the most peculiar and fantastical works and some of the most brilliant minds. Of course, this does not exclude other areas such as literature or graphic design. Writing is indeed one of my top few.

I'm still rather new to photography. I've only been serious with it for a year or so, and it took me half of that to get a new and better equipped camera. I shoot with a Fujifilm FinePix S700 (10x optical zoom), and soon, I hope, something different, but by no means is this a bad piece of technology - it's rare that I am ever seen without it on me or nearby.

I plan to take photography seriously. However, I don't believe I am confident enough to give you much advice, and that's good because, well, this isn't an article to do so. I still need as much help as I can get and I am still learning. I don't think there is a photographer out there who cannot afford to discover something new. There are always a few tips and tricks, and always someone to listen and apply them.

The only thing I have to say is that one can always get better. Take everything you can and use it.

Each month for a while I want to introduce you to some photographers whose work I respect and admire. Permission was obtained for the use of each in Sweet Designs Magazine.
