FUN STUFF: EMBARRASSING MOMENTS

My Embarrassing Injury

By Elaura, age 16, California

Have you ever broken bones or dislocated something? Some say that you can hurt yourself in the stupidest ways. I have been well known for this. I am probably the biggest klutz ever. I have hurt myself so many times in the past and even recently.

My most recent accident was two months ago. The last day of my spring break I went to the beach with my family and boyfriend. We all walked along the beach but didn't get wet. We just put our feet in the sand. When we were ready to leave we all went to the showers to rinse our feet off. I was the last person to rinse off.

My boyfriend was standing next to me helping me keep my balance. When I finished I decided to tiptoe on the dry cement because there was wet sand surrounding the showers. As soon as I put my heel on the ground, I suddenly went right to the floor. I fell right on my butt! Once my boyfriend realized what had happened he turned around and tried to help. But I couldn't move. I was in so much pain.

I stayed on the ground for about five minutes trying to recuperate. When I finally got the strength to get up I needed my boyfriend to help me. I got up but could not walk. I can’t really explain how it felt. All I knew was that it hurt a lot!

My boyfriend carried me to my car. When we arrived at my house I could walk, but with a limp. I went straight to bed. The next day at school I was still walking with a limp. I just thought that it was normal. When I sat down at my desk in first period I felt an unusual pain on my tailbone. I wasn't sure of the feeling. So I just ignored it. But I began to hear a popping noise when I would get up from my seat. It scared me.

I figured that the pain would just go away in a couple of days. I was wrong. Two weeks came around and I finally told my parents that I was still in pain and I couldn't take it anymore. So that day I went to go see a chiropractor. It turned out that I had scraped cartilage off my tailbone and that my pelvis was out of whack. Whoa, that was totally unexpected! I didn't think I could hurt myself like that and not realize it. Thankfully, the chiropractor worked his magic and I am pain free now.
