Stress Management

By Taylor, age 15, Ontario

Do you ever get stressed about school work, family problems, or simply your teen years? Many teens go through it growing up. You're either not brilliant in math, your parents are getting divorced and you have to move, or boys are just bugging you.

I guarantee 100% of teens go through this. It's just part of life. But if the stress in your life is too much to handle, see a therapist as soon as possible. Stress can cause severe health problems and if it gets out of hand can lead to death.

We are too young to hold stress on our backs. We are just growing up and learning the facts of life. But as we all know boys and friendships are some of the worst kinds of stress. Yes, high school changes you and can have an impact on changing people. Your friends might find new friends to hang out with and so will you. It's all about growing up. To deal with this type of stress talk to your friends about it. At first they may think you're blaming everything on them, but after they think about it they will realize you are both at fault. If it's boys, talk to your friends or your parents. Your mom will know a lot about boys because she's been through it already.

If divorce is the problem you're going to have to sit both your parents down and talk to them about it because seeing your parents divorce isn't an easy thing to go through. Divorces are one of the main things in life that will tear you down. You've got to tell your parents you love them both and it won't change anything for you. You also need to decide whom you want to live with full time and if you're moving. It may take a while to adjust to your new surroundings, but eventually you'll get use to it.

I know all teenagers have the stress of completing their homework before they can do anything. Math can get really stressful with all the numbers and calculations you have to do, but to relieve stress every half an hour take a 5 minute break, get something light to eat, and drink some water. This usually calms me down. Or when you're doing your homework listen to music. Just don't get carried away in the music itself.

Teenagers think the number one way to get rid of stress is fighting. Fighting doesn't solve anything, and by fighting you're not showing anything to anybody. You're not being the bigger person.

Don't let stress take over your life. You can control it.

I hope these tips helped a lot. If you have any further questions please contact me using the response form below.
