The 80s Are Back!

By Kyleen, age 15, Arizona

Now if you girls haven't noticed, the 80s are back ... in a cuter way, of course! From Converse to leggings, and even to the hair, but we toned it down a bit. I am here to give you advice on where to score some inexpensive deals to get the style of the 80s in just the way you're looking for.

I like 80s fashion, and I like it my way! But having so many places to shop, and prices being so different everywhere, I never know where to find a good deal, and I don't mean getting our mom's 80s clothes. Until now, I have been paying a fortune to get my style the way I want it. Well, I have found some stores, steals, and tips for you to get your style, just the way you want it, for under $100, maybe less with some special combinations. Use my tips, and you'll be best dressed for the next few years! You'll find many steals on the year's latest trends (that we stole from our moms ... haha).

Let's Start with the Shoes. My Favorite!

Converse.com has a section where you can even design your own shoes. First it will ask you the style of shoe you want. Then it will ask your shoe size. It gives you the choice of colors for the outside and inside, the tongue, and the lace color. You can customize everything on the shoe to fit your style. This program at converse.com is perfect, I think. Why buy something that everyone else and their cousin has? Have something that is completely and totally you. You can even mark your name or a personal ID on the back of the shoe and on the inside.

My shoe design came out similar to this, only mine is green & black, for just $60 + shipping costs. Only at converse.com

Leggings!

I love to mix and match mine. You can get singles as well as connected ones. I love pink and black, and also green and purple. Mix-and-match with neon colors was big in the 80s, and guess what? It's back! Find some good deals for funky colored leggings at the stores below. Some of the best prices are at Target. Hot Topic stores run $20, while Target is lower than $10 on most of their legging styles.

Brightly colored leggings shown range from $7.99 to 8.99.
Available at www.target.com or your local store.

Patterned leggings shown are $6.99.
Available at www.target.com or your local store.

All these funky colors and designs are under $10.00.

Tops

Here they come ... tops, in styles from the 80s. Take one of these, mix it with a solid colored pair of Converse and some funky leggings, and it's time travel back to the 80s for you! Wear a cute short dress with these and you're set. You can find some cute tops at palmercash.com , or head to Target or target.com and find some really cute short dresses and shirts that I actually love wearing. They range from $10 to $30.

Tees shown are $21.97.
Available at www.palmercash.com.

Dresses shown range from $24.99 to $29.99.
Available at www.target.com or your local store.

The main thing that's back is layers! Take these tops and tank tops, and mix and match however you please, and it will be a simple yet stylish outfit for any occasion!

Tops shown range from $5.99 to $8.99.
Available at www.target.com or your local store.

Tanks shown are $6.00.
Available at www.target.com or your local store.

Bottoms

As we all know, skinny jeans are the top bottom choice for girls and guys these days. Below are some of the best deals I've have found for skinny jeans for all sizes. Compare the look and price of popular Abercrombie & Fitch at $89.50 with these inexpensive deals and similar looks at Target.com.

Skinny jeans shown are $24.99.
Available at www.target.com or your local store.

Hope this 'tips and steals' helped! Happy Shopping!
