Back Then Trends

By Jasmin, age 14, Indiana

It seems as though the colored tights fad is definitely coming back from ... when? The '80s? The '70s? Yes, even as the adults from that time period cringe, we girls are absolutely flipping over this 'new' trend. No matter if they are paired with a cute, trendy bright miniskirt, or add just a pop of color with some jean shorts and Uggs.

Tights are definitely back, bringing along with it several other trends from when our parents were teenagers. Trends such as wide leg bell bottoms, platform high heels, and even empire waisted shirts and dresses. Yes, they are all coming back, and we're all raving about them. Including me, as I wear some high-waisted jeans and heart suspenders.

Some of these comebacks are definitely on the 'to-buy list' and some just need to walk out of this century and back into theirs! You gotta watch out for the few that should've stayed back in the '70s or '80s. Like, for example, those huge, clunky clear platform wedge heels with the fish in them! I mean, who could walk around knowing they have a live being in the bottom of their shoe?! I know I couldn't, so that's why I'd prefer to wear a more modern and less fishy version of this fad, like these adorable suede platforms. The heel may look a little high, but whoever said beauty was 100% pain free? :)

Another huge trend that's reappearing quite famously is, simply put, peace. Peace shirts, peace purses, peace jewelry, peace key chains, peace everything. The 'hippie' trend has definitely come back in full force. Of course, I can't complain, because I myself have tons of peace paraphernalia. I own 2 peace necklaces, a peace bracelet, 2 pairs of peace sign hoops, a green peace ring, and sometimes I wear my hippie headband with peace signs all over it!

So, as you can tell, peace and peace signs are super big right now, and everyone loves it (including me!) :) Go to any local vintage shop in your area and pick up some hippie-wear. Now a lot of the department stores even carry peace sign jewelry! Like this really cute blue one from Target for only $12.99! Stylish and inexpensive - always the best route to go.

So, it proves true then, that no matter how long ago trends were set, they still all come back and make another appearance, and are loved even more, and worn by new people, yet they're still somehow 'new'. :)
