REAL LIFE

She's My Hero

By Mckayla, age 14, Canada

Some people wonder who their hero is. I've even asked myself the same question. Is my hero a celebrity? Is my hero my parents? Is my hero my sister? I couldn't think of who to write this article about until I thought of the person standing right in front of me.

Her name is Katie, and she's been my best friend since I was in grade 6. I don't know why she's my hero. There are so many things I could say about her that could make her my hero. One thing out of all her qualities that really stands out is that she can tell you to be positive about life, and you just listen to her even if you don't want to. When things are on their rough side in my life she tells me it's not worth it to worry, and reminds me to just forget about it and think of all the awesome things to look forward to. She is always there for me when I need someone, and says the most stupid things to make me laugh.

When things aren't going well and life isn't at its best, I think of Katie and her words. So, if you're ever wondering who your hero is, think of your best friend and his or her qualities. I'm sure there are a lot of things that your best friend does to make them your hero.

"Heroism feels and never reasons, and therefore is always right."
