College: The Time of Your Life

By Kimberly, age 18, California

College is one of the most amazing experiences I have had in my life thus far. I am currently finishing up my spring semester, which is my 2nd semester at Cal State Northridge. College overall is very different from high school, and you have way more freedom to go out and to choose your own schedule, what time you want classes and everything in between. I am so glad that I am out of high school because I can choose what times I want my classes and on which days I want them. I am not an early morning person, so for me I chose classes that are later in the morning, and it's one of the greatest things.

Meeting all different types of people you have never met before is one of the other amazing things. I say this because at my high school it was not that diverse, so when I got to Northridge I saw all different types of people and got to hear different ideas. In the short time I have been at college I have already learned so much about the world and about myself. College gives you the chance to spread your wings, meet new people, and even totally invent a new person who is different from the person you once were in high school. I didn't really change myself that much from high school, but I do have an open mind now, more than in high school.

All the parties, classes, and people, and the area where you choose to go to college will shape the rest of your life. I know that for me I chose the best place to go to college, but I have friends who are in one school right now, but once this quarter is over they are switching to another school because they are unhappy there. So when you are choosing which college to go to make sure that you go to look at the school before you decide to go there, because you don't want to end up making the same mistakes as some of the people I know. Trust me, once you start college you will think it's the time of your life!
