Lines, Vines, and Trying Times

By Sarah, age 19, Massachusetts

The Jonas Brothers' fourth album Lines, Vines, and Trying Times is going to be released on Tuesday June 16th. The studio album is their third under Hollywood Records. The songs on this album seem to have a different sound from their previous ones. Nick Jonas spoke about the variation in their sound. "This new album, for us, I wouldn't say it's a big jump, but it definitely is a progression in our music and a growth for us." Joe Jonas added, "It has a lot of more kind of horns and a lot more strings. Also, there's more to the music rather than just a typical kind of relationship song." The album is said to have a Neil Diamond influence to it. Nick Jonas also explained in another interview that the album is "our journal in songs," mostly about "all things we've gone through, personal experiences we get inspiration from. We've also been working on trying to use metaphors ... to kind of mask a literal thing that happens to us."

As far as the album title's meaning, Nick Jonas explained in a Rolling Stone interview, Lines, Vines, and Trying Times is "a bit of poetry we came up with on the set for the TV show. Lines are something that someone feeds you, whether it's good or bad. Vines are the things that get in the way of the path that you're on, and trying times - well, obviously we're younger guys, but we're aware of what's going on in the world, and we're trying to bring some light to it."

The album also has a special feature for their fans. Miley Cyrus performs a duet with Nick Jonas on the album's song titled "Before the Storm". The album definitely does not disappoint. There is an excellent assortment and balance of upbeat themes, emotion, and heart that went into each unique song on the album. The fourth addition of the Jonas Brothers legacy is sure to be an illustration how they have progressed during their short duration of fame. That is certain to continue to grow.
