ENTERTAINMENT: BOOK REVIEW

Marley & Me (the book)

Reviewed by Mckayla, age 14, Canada

Imagine having a pet you can't control, one that's so bad it destroys your house, doesn't listen to your orders, and embarrasses you in public. Well, that's what happens to John Grogan in the book Marley & Me.

This memoir tells the real life story of how John Grogan and his family try hard to deal with their uncontrollable yellow lab Marley. It all starts when John and his wife Jenny buy a little puppy to help complete their family. They soon realize his unpreventable fear of thunderstorms that leads to the destruction of their home. As Marley grows older he becomes known to them as the "world's worst dog", but also a joyful part of their lives.

As the years pass the Grogans start building onto to their family, moving from house to house. They're always finding out new things about Marley's not-so-dog-like personality. Marley fills their lives with adventures. With a surprise ending, you will also want to see the movie based on the book.

This book is definitely a "must read". It will have you laughing. It will have you smiling. It will have you crying. John Grogan has put a lot of detail into this book that will make you picture what he went through. You won't be able to put it down. It truly reminds me of the real meaning of bonding with your dog.

"A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his." - John Grogan

I give this book 5 stars (of a possible 5).
