Say 'Yes' to Harry, 'No' to Bruno:
Summer Movies 2009

By Kimberly, age 18, California

This summer has had a lot of great movies, from Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, as well as The Hangover, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, The Ugly Truth, X-Men: Origins, Terminator: Salvation, The Proposal, Funny People, and many more. As I am writing this, the summer is not completely over, yet more than half of the summer movies have come out already, and I can say that this summer we've enjoyed some good movies.

For me, my favorite movies were: Transformers, Harry Potter, and The Hangover because they all had good story lines and good actors in them. Even though those were my top three favorites, most, if not all, the movies that have been released have been good.

However, there was one I was very disappointed in. I have to say that Bruno was very disappointing because, as funny as Borat was, we expected for Bruno to be somewhat as funny, but it ended up being a huge disappointment. Most people I know thought the movie was very stupid, and not funny at all. With all the good movies that have come out so far this summer, we have to expect that there will be some movies that will not meet our standards.

This summer is sure to be a good one, with Harry Potter having all its midnight shows sold out, and pulling in $22.2 million in midnight sales, while Transformers made $16 million for its midnight shows. While those two movies made a huge splash, The Hangover has been going strong with $45 million since its opening on June 5th, 2009.

There are still a few movies we fans are waiting to see come out this summer (which will be in theaters by the time this is posted):

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, on August 7th
Julie & Julia, on August 7th
A Perfect Getaway, on August 7th
The Time Traveler's Wife, on August 14th
The Post Grad, on August 14th
Final Destination: Death Trip 3D, on August 28th

So, with all of these new movies coming out, it is shaping up to be one good summer for movies!!
