Greetings, Sweet Designs readers! My name is Kristen, and this past summer I have been a Staff Intern, working with Stephanie on various projects for the magazine. I have enjoyed my experience and am very honored to be on this month's issue cover.

Ok, so on to more about me: I'm 19 years old, born and raised in New England. I love everything about New England, from the Red Sox to the cold beaches. The only thing I hate is the snow. I know it's contradictory to live somewhere where the winters are intense, but my whole family is here, and even though I hate snow I can't imagine living anywhere else.

I have a slightly different heritage than most. I am fifty percent Puerto Rican and fifty percent Irish. I have my dad's tan skin and my mom's beautiful Irish brown eyes (and I have a freckle or two as well). My extended family is HUGE and very important to me. My extended family, immediate family, and close friends of the family are all a blessing ,and I am very grateful to know each and every one of them!

I am a college junior in Massachusetts, living on campus and enjoying a full class schedule, hanging out with friends, trying to find a job, and having a boyfriend. I am a very driven person when it comes to my studies. I am going to college to be a high school English teacher, a career I have wanted since the 10th grade. My love for books sparked my love for writing, which is why, when I heard about Sweet Designs Magazine, I wanted to be a part of it.

My boyfriend, by the way, is my best friend too. We've been dating since I was in high school (over two years). We are very happy together, although he distracts me from my homework sometimes. He's a big part of my life. If you speak to any of my friends or family, they'll tell you I talk about him too much. My reaction to that is I'm in love and I don't care if I annoy people about it. ;)

There are many things that are important to me. Tolerance, having morals, and being true to oneself are just a few. I try to love everyone, stick to what I believe is right, and pursue the dreams I want. My parents have instilled into me that I can do whatever I want, and I intend to listen to them.

I love teenage dramas on TV, from Secret Life of the American Teenager to 90210. My all time favorite shows are House, Bones, and Project Runway. Perhaps I watch too much TV, but I balance that out by reading a lot. This past semester alone I read 10 books! I try to read whenever I can and try to read a great variety of books. I am also into music and movies, and there are probably too many favorites in those categories to count. I love dramas and comedies the best, though I will watch a horror movie or two if I am in the mood.

I try to be the one in charge of my destiny. My future personal goals are to try a variety of different things before I turn 30, such as riding in a hot air balloon, getting married, not living with my parents, and one day I will conquer my ill feelings toward tomatoes. I hate tomatoes and ketchup. I know, I'm weird.

Sweet Designs Magazine has given me the opportunity to do a lot of things I have never done before. I have never done HTML coding, writing for a magazine, doing book reviews, and a lot of other fun stuff. I also love the message this magazine is giving to young girls out there: every young girl has a voice and has a right to be heard. Working with Stephanie has been a blast and I look forward to doing more work with her and the magazine as it grows.
