REAL LIFE

Bullying

By Karina, age 17, Texas

I have a twin brother, and I love him more than life! He is my only sibling, so you can imagine our great friendship. However, sometimes in school the boys can be horrible bullies! Especially in middle school boys were rude and laughed at him or things he would do. It got better when we got into high school, but I still notice it.

His "friends" are so rude. When they take John somewhere, they leave him there! Or they won't even include him. They use him as a verbal punching bag. It's so aggravating I just want to punch them all! You may think, Well, why doesn't he get new friends? But this is extremely difficult because we go to a small school. I just wish that his "friends" would realize how mean they are being and cut it out. I do understand that boys make fun of themselves and their friends, but I can tell this is very different. However, in college I know things will be so much better for him! He is amazing, and will go way farther in life than those other boys can even dream of.

So the moral of my little anecdote is to think back. Think back about what you did today. Were you stand-offish to someone? Were you just plain rude? Could you have been nicer to that poor girl or boy that sits by himself at the lunch table? I challenge everyone to think about this, and go back to school (or work) and be nicer to that person. The world would be a better place if we all did this. :)
