We'll Show the World
By Roopa, age 16, California
On this moonlit beach, I stand ...my toes curl in the sand,
midnight brown hair
sways in salty air.
I pirouette along,
humming a sweet love song.
At the center of a spilling wave,
I find a spot to engrave.
I gently use my toe,
to draw my heart below.
The wave tumbles astray,
washing the shore away.
There is nothing in sight
but my heart, shining in the night.
My drawing remains unharmed, it's surreal;
what I feel must be real.
I give you my heart: untouched, full of
my everlasting love.
It is your turn to use your toe ...
draw your heart below.
When your heart is finally mine,
our hands will intertwine.
We'll show the world, you'll see ...
we were meant to be.
