Soft Giggles
By Danielle, age 17, South Carolina
On this bench beside the treeI glare to the waters for hope
For ripples speak to me
As orange leaves fall to the blue.
Leaves form your face
With fish bubbles forming eyes
A mouth by thin seaweed
The almond shape fills my eyes.
Baby waves wash the shoe
Light sand tickles my toes
And mist washes my face
Like your touch once did but can't.
Warm autumn breeze swirls
Breaking dead twigs
It kisses my skin
Making memories appear around.
Sweet hands intertwined on snowy hills
Hugging to keep warmth close
Fuzzy jackets tickle our noses
And soft giggles escape our lips.
Time springs forward to new flowers
And buzzing baby bees,
While emerald silk pushes through
Trying to see the shine.
Our summers were humid and breezy
As our faces burned cherries
And we turned bronze
Like an ancient penny.
Now I'm here alone
Without your lovely being
And my mind can only wonder
How did it happen?
This bench by the tree stands alone,
Absent are the birds and bees
For now life has flown like geese
And left alone once again are you and I.
