Marriage at 18

I have had two best friends since elementary school. However, one of them, Susan, moved our junior year to a different high school. At first, it wasn't too bad; we all talked and decided we would hang out when we had time. However, then we didn't have enough time during the school year. So, we decided that over the summer we would hang out. Then came the summer. Everyone was busy. Then it was the beginning of our senior year. Susan called my other friend and I and told us she was getting married. Wait, WHAT? Married? For real? We didn't know what to say. I mean, yeah, we still talked during that year we had been away from each other, and she told us about her different boyfriends, but I didn't think she would say something like that. Of the three of us, she was the one most likely to get married last.
Let's get things straight. Susan is a straight A student and was the salutatorian until she left for the other high school. Her family has the strongest Christian morals I have ever seen. She had always been very intent on her education. But now she plans on getting married? Where did that come from??
Maybe if my other friend and I would have seen her more often in that apparently life-changing year, we could have changed the course of her life. Maybe she could learn to be an independent young woman instead of going from her father's house straight to her husband's house. Maybe things would have been different. But we will never know. Now, my friend and I will just have to live with her choices, and so will she. I'm not saying I hope the relationship crashes and burns - far from it. I just hope she knows what she is getting herself into. I hope her soon-to-be-husband is the right one for her.
