Simplicity, No More
By Stephanie, age 16, Texas
Peace and serenity,I miss simplicity,
I remember a moment in 8th grade,
Staring at the Christmas tree,
Blinded by the twinkling multi-colored lights,
My only worry was presents,
My stomach only filled with scrumptious cookies,
My parents laughing,
My sister grumbling about being cold,
My mom shouting,
Her cheeks rosy red,
I played Greensleeves on the piano,
Everything was peaceful.
Now it's 11th grade,
Staring at the Christmas tree,
Blinded by the twinkling multi-colored lights,
Worrying about "Am I good enough?"
My stomach filling with worry and confusion,
My parents laughing,
My sister grumbling about being too warm,
My mom shouting,
I play Greensleeves on the piano,
For old time's sake,
And for that one split second,
Simple and pure,
Everything was peaceful and serene,
I miss simplicity.
