Bittersweet Rainbow
By Miriam, age 14, Oregon
An arc of color,Gracing a palette of gray.
An ending,
Or a compromise.
It's a bittersweet reminder,
A day of rain,
For a few streaks hue.
Sun shimmering
Through the droplets.
A bloody war,
An aftermath of decimating grief,
To grant
An elusive promise of peace.
Christmas presents
Given away,
To see but even one child smile.
A rainbow,
A curve of color,
An arch of dazzling bands,
It's a bittersweet phenomenon.
Hours of dark and damp,
Traded for a few moments of brilliancy.
But sometimes you get lucky,
And find a double.
