Food Is Love

There's one thing I'm delighted to say this year: I'm thankful my mom has time for me. Really. Over the past few months her help and support have meant so much to me - I can't even express my gratitude in words. I've been through college applications, launching a school newspaper, competing in drama competitions, and so much more. Any other year I would have gone insane, or been so exhausted that no one would want to hang around me. This year has been different - it's been delicious. My mom always cooks with either sugar, salt, or butter. Her motto is "chocolate has all the answers," and who am I to disagree? Hot cocoa, cookies, cakes - they just never end in my house. (She actually just walked up to me to ask if I wanted a bowl of popcorn, since she decided to make some. This is the life.) But most of all, she's available. I can talk to her anytime. Even though she has a job right now, we still have time to laugh at each other, tell jokes, and deal with the ants that just invaded our house. She knows what my dream career is, and she believes in my ability to achieve it. This alone has been a huge boost to my confidence this year.
I'm blessed to have her undivided attention my senior year. With the way things have been going, this will be my best year in high school. I can't take credit for that - it's the actions of my peers, teachers, friends, and family that keep a smile on my face.
Don't just celebrate Thanksgiving this year with food - say it aloud. Thank someone - anyone - who has brightened your day. It's never too late to appreciate.
