Please tell us a little about your books.

I write humorous paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Currently I have two series: The Jolie Wilkins series is about a witch who can reanimate the dead and the Dulcie O'Neil series is about a fairy in law enforcement.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Yes, ever since I was a little girl.

Your road to publication is a fascinating story in itself. Could you share it with our readers?

Sure, I started writing seriously about five years ago when I wrote the first book in the Jolie Wilkins series, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble. I was able to get an agent and thought my writing career was set! Then the rejections started coming in, publishers saying my books were too funny and wouldn't sell. After a few months of this, I gave up and sat on my books for about four years. Then I read an article about self publishing and figured I had nothing to lose. I uploaded the first two books in each series in July 2010 and haven't looked back since! I've now sold over 225,000 copies and I've signed with Random House for my Jolie Wilkins series.

Who inspired the character of Jolie?

Really, Jolie was an answer to the fact that all the urban fantasy books I was reading at the time had these hard-headed and super-woman type heroines that I couldn't relate to. I wanted to write about a heroine who was an everyday kind of girl-next-door, hence the creation of Jolie.

Who's your favorite character to write?

I love writing Jolie because she's a lot like I am so it's pretty easy. But, I would have to say my absolute favorite character to write is the vampire Sinjin. He's just so much fun!

The creatures in your books have unique abilities and traits. Where did you get the information for them? (i.e. vampires cannot be defeated, etc.)

I just sort of thought up my own rules. LOL. I just put my own spin on everything.

What's currently on your reading list?

I'm reading my friend, JR Rain's books. He's incredibly funny and a very gifted reader. He has a vampire series at the moment titled: The Vampire for Hire Series.

Sinjin and Rand are both equally hot and irresistible. So tell us, vamps or warlocks?

Oh, I can't pick! I love them both!!!! I don't know how Jolie can choose!

Can you relate more to Dulcie or Jolie?

I relate more to Jolie because I'm more like her. I do love Dulcie's strength though and I do wish I were more like her at times!

What's lined up for you in the future?

I have three books in the Jolie series coming out next year with Random House!

Where can we purchase your books and learn more about you?

Amazon or Barnes and Noble, and you can find out more about me on my website: www.hpmallory.com

Thank you.
