REAL LIFE

Life Is Short - Enjoy It

By Jayzle-May, age 13, California

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

Life is short. We have to live every second of our life because, if we don't, when we look back into the past, we're going to wonder, "What did I do all those years?" We only have one life, one chance, one time. We can never truly repeat something that we did in the past exactly like it happened. So what now?

Life is full of risks and daring adventures, and it's up to us to live up to it. Life is a challenge. It's up to us to accept it. Life is scary - conquer your fears. Life is exciting. Don't waste it spending your time sad or disappointed in what you did or did not do. No one really can tell you what to do. They can only influence you. If you want to do something, go for it.

Enjoy your life. You only have one life and you never know when your last day is. If you looked back at your life today, would you be proud of yourself? Are you the person you wanted to be?

Chase your dreams, be happy, and most of all, take care of yourself. If you're in a difficult time period or something didn't go right in your life, don't dwell on it. There's no point in continuously beating yourself up because this or that didn't work the way you wanted it to. You're only hurting yourself. Breathe. Accept what happened, learn from it, and move on.

Celebrate each day like it's your last because, in all reality, you never know. Do the things that make you happy because your happiness counts too. Live your life like a daring adventure because it is. You're glass isn't half-empty - it's half-full. I encourage everyone to look at their lives optimistically, not pessimistically. Once you start looking at the brighter side of your life, you too will feel like nothing could go wrong. When nothing can go wrong, all that can happen is good things.

Life is a song - sing it.
Life is a game - play it.
Life is a challenge - meet it.
Life is a dream - realize it.
Life is a sacrifice - offer it.
Life is love - enjoy it.

- Sai Baba
