Sweet Designs Staff Intern

Age 24, Massachusetts

Joined the SDM Team: June 2009

Why I Work with SDM: I have currently completed a year of my Master's degree with one year to go, and Sweet Designs provides a much-needed artistic outlet in my life, plus a terrific opportunity to experience the work involved in publishing a magazine.

Activities, Sports, Interests: I am foremost a writer. Although I mainly studied the social sciences during college and graduate school, I write mostly fiction, as evidenced by the fact that my notes for class are frequently interrupted by story ideas.

Nevertheless, I love politics, sociology, history, and philosophy. Understanding the world and how individuals function within it only helps to strengthen the stories I invent, and my stories tend to be more character driven for this reason.

Favorite Authors: Oscar Wilde, Milan Kundera, Truman Capote, F. Scott Fitzgerald, George Orwell, Stephen Fry, Steve Martin, Anne Tyler.

Favorite School Subjects: English, History - though I majored in Political Science in college!

Favorite Movies: Bridget Jones's Diary, The Big Chill, The Ice Storm, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, De-Lovely, and The Accidental Tourist.

Favorite TV Shows: Will and Grace, Sex and the City, The L Word, Seinfeld, Friends, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, 30 Rock, and American Idol.

I listen to: Tons! In particular, Elvis Costello, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Fiona Apple, Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon, U2, Alanis Morrisette, Diana Krall, The Police, Sting, Dave Matthews, Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Barenaked Ladies, Cole Porter, Queen, Stephen Sondheim, plus lots of show tunes.

Most Important Values: Friendship, truth, creativity, and compassion.

I enjoy: Theatre, food, books, writing, summer, and wine.
