Twilight

Everyone has been waiting for the Twilight movie since they announced they were filming it all the way back in March. There have been countless clips on YouTube, and countless pictures and updates have been posted all over the web. Movie merchandise, including tee-shirts and posters, have been sold at stores months before the movie even hit theaters. So now that it's finally in theaters, was it worth the 7 month wait?

Twilight made nearly 37 million dollars on its release date, and it's estimated to make about 70 million for the entire weekend. That beats the third Pirates of the Caribbean and the second Harry Potter. So the box office tells us it's successful, but what was actually brought to the table? Does Twilight live up to its big box office ranking?

In my opinion, there has only ever been one movie that was better than the book, and that was The Notebook. So do I think the Twilight movie was better than the book? No, but it was close. The thing that ultimately makes it not live up to the book is the amount of information provided, but that's to be expected when you try to squeeze a 500 page book into a two hour movie. Things were a bit rushed, so if you are unfamiliar with the book you may not be able to understand it 100%, but it is very easy to follow if you pay attention. The book gives us the advantage of being in Bella's head, and we can only be in there for a portion of the movie.

But while the movie did not live up to the book, it had its own particular charm. Robert Pattinson took Edward and played him flawlessly. The same goes for all the other actors in the movie. I didn't feel as if I were watching actors playing the characters, but it was like watching the characters themselves. They all play their characters well, and I was pretty surprised.

Do I recommend this movie? Yes. Everything that makes a good movie is in this one. Of course, there's romance, humor, plenty of action, and gorgeous actors, as well as the amazing plot presented in the book. A lot of the book went into this movie, as well as new scenes we couldn't get from Bella's perspective that the book gives us. It's a good quality movie, and I know I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. So if you haven't seen it yet, go! Even if movie tickets are a little pricy, it's definitely worth it.

Oh, and just to let you know, our Twilight experience is not over yet! Summit Entertainment, the company that produced Twilight, officially announced that they are making the second book, New Moon, into a movie. So no worries, the Twilight ride is far from over!

I give this movie 4 stars (of a possible 5).
