FUN STUFF

Crafty Stuff to Snazzy Up Your Space

By Stephanie Lynn, age 24, Massachusetts
Editor-in-Chief

As you may or may not know, I've made it my goal to feature many young, talented artists, crafters, and designers I find on websites like Etsy.com. This month I thought it would be awesome to share some items that can help sweeten up your space, whether it be your bedroom, a college dorm, or your first apartment. I hope these items inspire you.

Leo the Handspun All Natural Alpaca Polar Bear
By ptitebaloue, Isabelle, age 24, Quebec, Canada
http://ptitebaloue.etsy.com

Every girl needs her teddy, but I fell in love with this polar bear made of alpaca fiber! Leo is 13 inches tall (head to toe) and was knit from 100% undyed white alpaca fiber, which is extremely soft. Isabelle even handspun the fiber into yarn herself! So talented! He is stuffed with natural wool and will look ah-dorable in nearly any space. You should also check out the teddy bears, lions, and penguins in her shop!

"Learned to Live Without Love" Soft Laptop Cover
By kezbirdie, Kez, age 20, United Kingdom
http://kezbirdie.etsy.com

Keep your beloved laptop safe from dust and dirt while it's chillin 'round your space. Laptop cover is made with hand-dyed cotton fabric, lined with black lycra, and adorned with black bows. Kez also designs some of the coolest custom shoes you'll ever see. Hoodies, jackets, bags, and scarves are just a few of her specialties. Wait 'til you see how she's transformed thrift store finds into remarkable fashion items. I love her black and white fitted striped jacket!

Bunny Love (Teal & Red) Framed & Matted Print
By Steppie, Stephanie, age 22, California
http://steppie.etsy.com

Awww, two cute little bunnies in love! This item is a 5x5 inch print double matted within a 10x10 inch black frame which would look stunning in any room. She has a lot of other goodies in her shop, from cute note cards, buttons, and journals to canvas artwork and prints. I especially love her "I Heart Giraffe" and "I am a Ninja" prints. Hedgehogs, pandas, birdies, penguins, elephants, whales ... this shop is a must see!

Ramen Cup Crochet Pattern
By Syppah, Jessica, age 18, Texas
http://syppah.etsy.com

What's one thing that every college dorm always has a full stock of? That's right, ramen noodles!! I don't think I could have gotten through my college years without them. Jessica offers this awesome ramen cup crochet pattern. She only sells the pattern for this piece, so if you have some basic crocheting skills, this could be a fun project to keep you occupied on a dorm-bound or house-bound evening. Only a few items in her shop are patterns; the rest are already made for you. So if you would love a crocheted bunny, kitty, cupcake, or lemon cream pie plushie - or maybe a turtle coin purse - then this is the shop for you! Very kawaii!

Crime Fighting Team
By IttyBittiesForYou, Jennifer, age 21, Kentucky
http://ittybittiesforyou.etsy.com

Keep your annoying little brother or roommate's boyfriend out of your room with this rad crime fighting team. The team is made up of a giraffe, a hippo, and an elephant, all decked out with stylish capes and eye masks. All the pieces are 1.5 to 2.25 inches tall, made of polymer clay, and have black glass seed bead eyes. She makes lots of other goodies from polymer clay, such a mini-cactus, superhero dogs, wonder kitties, and more. She also makes a variety of robots - DJ robots, holiday robots, surfing robots, mustached robots, matador robots, phone robots, and the list goes on ...

Gilby
By talkproof, Cassie, age 17, California
http://talkproof.etsy.com

Bird? Penguin? I'm not entirely sure, but Gilby is an awesomely cute plushie that will add some vibrant color to any bedroom or dorm space. He's 8 inches wide and 5 inches tall and made of soft fleece and felt. Rest him on your pillows, desk, or bookshelf if you wish, but he likes to pop packaging peanuts with his feet and stick stickers on rocks ... at least according to Cassie. She has lots of other goodies for your space, like dinosaurs, beavers, hippos, and koalas. You should also check out her signature wubbies. What's a wubby? You'll just have to visit her online shop to find out.

Hand Painted Silk Cushion Cover
By Haannh, Han, age 25, Malaysia
http://haannh.etsy.com

Looking to add some pizazz and elegance to the boring, ol' couch or chair in your TV room or apartment? Han hand paints gorgeous cushion covers from materials like silk and satin at a fair price. She also designs beautiful curtains to match your cushion covers for a cohesive look. She offers a variety of fabric that can be sewn into pillows, table runners, and even lovely fashions just for you.

Paaie, the Pie Loving Monster
By misskittycharms, Kitty, age 15, Australia
http://misskittycharms.etsy.com

If you thought Gilby was fun, then you'll love Paaie! Paaie loves pie. Pumpkin pie, apple pie, cherry pie ... all sorts of pie. Pie is pretty much her life. She is made of white with black spotted faux fur with a pocket mouth to store away and hide any goodies. She also comes with one slice of pumpkin pie and one slice of cherry pie plush, but I think she might prefer a new owner who bakes real pies. Mmmm ...

I hope these talented artists, crafters, and designers have inspired you in your own bedroom, dorm room, or apartment decorating. If you search Etsy, I'm sure you'll find lots of other snazzy items to create or complete your own space.

Happy decorating,
♥ Stephanie Lynn
