Once upon a time, there was a girl named Kate ...
You may remember me from the cover of last December's issue, and perhaps you have read many of my articles. Maybe you agreed with a few of my movie or book reviews, or maybe you enjoy following me as I write about my first year in college.
Or maybe you don't know me at all. (That's a problem. We will have to fix that.)
Here at Sweet Designs, I am a Real Life writer (though I have written in other categories as well). I have been writing for Sweet Designs for almost two years, I think. Wow, has it been that long already?
Currently, I am a freshman in college studying Creative Writing. If you haven't figured it out by now, I love to write and do so as much as possible, whether I'm writing a story for a class or an article for this wonderful magazine.
My goals for the next 8 years are: getting a degree in Creative Writing, going to grad school in New York for Interior Design, and hopefully, while I'm in grad school (because I have to pay for it somehow!) getting a job in the movie area, hopefully putting my writing skills to use as a screenwriter. I have also considered picking up a minor in dreams. Maybe something along the lines of dream psychology.
Obviously I have big dreams and I am going to do everything in my power to achieve those dreams ... and then some.
If you read my first bio, you will know that I am also a horse fan. Horses have always been a part of my life, and hopefully in the spring I will finally be able to own my first horse. I used to ride every week as much as possible, but recently the horse I rode died very suddenly. (R.I.P. Alante. You taught me everything. Thanks.) I mostly ride pleasure, but I love to jump! And I absolutely love barrel racing! Wherever I end up, my life will never be complete without a barn and horses.
I continue to partake in Civil War re-enactments, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe you read the article I wrote about it ("Fifth Mass, Fall In", SDM Aug '08). If not, I suggest you do!
Being a freshman in college is a totally new and exciting experience for me, and as you may have noticed, I have been writing a series of articles about my experience in hopes of helping current and future collegians through the years. It was been quite a transition for me, as I have lost contact with many high school friends and found myself alone in a new environment, but I've adjusted quickly and I am already used to the goings on here at my college. I have been getting very close not only with my roommate, but other students as well, and I am forming what I hope to be very close friendships.
I have also been realizing who I am as a person and the dreams I want to reach. My life is only just beginning, and I can't wait to get started and see what it has in store for me!
