REAL LIFE: COLLEGE

College Hump Day

For all you college girls out there, happy hump day! The first semester is almost over and finals are quickly approaching. Where has the time gone?! Winter break is just around the corner, and soon we'll be on the last half of the college year!

Don't get too excited though. You still have finals, and then another whole semester. As exciting as it is to be halfway through the year, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Don't get caught off-guard with finals like I did during midterms. If you are having trouble in a class, talk to your teacher. Get extra credit if you can and join study groups that might be forming around campus. You can and will get kicked out if your grades are low! Don't let that happen to you; return with all your friends next semester!

If you read my last article, "Do's and Don'ts for College Classes" (Nov '09), you will have a general idea of ways to help you through finals. Here are a few ideas from my last article you may want to consider:

DO: Get to sleep at a reasonable hour, especially if you have morning classes.
DON'T: Be loud if you are up late; some people are trying to sleep or get work done.

DO: Figure out what works best, studying wise. What type of environment works best for you?
DON'T: Study or do homework with your friends UNLESS you are doing a study group or project. Don't let them become a distraction.

DO: Treat yourself when you finish homework, projects, or get a good grade on an exam.
DON'T: Stress yourself out! If you've been working on homework for over two hours, take a break. Split things up. Get a breath of fresh air.

DO: Ask for help if you need it, whether it's from classmates, professors, or a student help center provided by your school.
DON'T: Deny an offer for help, even if you don't think you need it. Get a second opinion; it may help expand your ideas for projects and such.

Good luck, ladies, on all your finals, and enjoy your winter break!
