My name is Emily and I will cause a great rapture.

For as long as I can remember, I have been a writer. I started with short stories, then I moved on to poetry, and then on one fateful day, I became a columnist for Sweet Designs Magazine. I've been writing for Sweet Designs for two years now and I love every minute of it! I've stayed with Sweet Designs because I'm bold, over the top, and I love controversy. I like to make people think. Sweet Designs has become an outlet for me to express my opinions about the world we live in.

I am of mixed ancestry. I'm half American and half Turkish, which, believe it or not, happens fairly often. While I'm not overly fond of the Turkish culture, I'm grateful to be able to experience the life that I do. It has made me a more independent person, and in turn has fueled my passion for liberating women around the world.

And, because I grew up in a household of different ethnicities, I have also grown up with different religions. My mom is Mormon and my dad is Muslim, so I have also been able to experience different religions. I am agnostic, which doesn't please my Turkish side of the family very much, but I have yet to find a religion that is right for me.

I'm currently a third year Political Science major with an interest in genocide and human rights. I love studying the Middle East, especially the human rights violations that occur there. I've decided, however, to take a year off from school because I feel like I have other things I could be experiencing right now.

If you read my last cover bio from the June 2008 issue, I said that I don't watch much TV. This has changed! I watch a lot more than I used to because I've discovered so many good shows as of late. I'm currently addicted to Project Runway, Sex and the City, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, The Colbert Report, and, of course, Grey's Anatomy.

I also try to read as much as humanly possible. I've just finished the Shopaholic series, which I think was secretly written after me! I also love Stephen King and Anne Rice. Anne Rice's vampires are beautiful and tragic, unlike certain popular vampires.

I try to remain as active as possible. My friends and I love to go dancing, which is excellent exercise. I also try to work out as much as my schedule will allow, although I've been slacking off lately. But on nice days, I love walking around the city and soaking in the sun. The city that I live in right now is infamous for its rain and fog because of the harbour, so no one takes the sun for granted here.

I also love music. Even though I don't have a favourite band, I have artists I love listening to. These include, but are definitely not limited to, The Beach Boys, the Venga Boys, Madonna, ZZ Top, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, Salt n Peppa, and REM.

Finally, I love movies! I'm a diehard fan of V for Vendetta because of its political nature and the way it makes you think critically about the society we live in. I also love Transformers, Eagle Eye, Moulin Rouge, Crazy/Beautiful, and The Dark Knight.

"Words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth."
