I'm Mayra, an ambitious 19 year old woman from the city of Los Angeles. For a living, I write for Sweet Designs Magazine. I say "living" not because I get paid to write, but for the sake of actually feeling alive. Writing has always been my passion, a way of nurturing my emotions and allowing me to express my every being. From my encounters with the past and my plans for the future, writing has been there recording every moment of my life. I guess that's why writing comes so natural for me - it has simply become a lifestyle now.

As the oldest of three, I've tried setting a good example for the youngest, graduating out of high school and pursuing higher education, where I currently have found myself taking on new projects and achieving the impossible. I'm not your average girl; I'm not in search of the American Dream. I don't want the picket fence or the perfect family; instead, I'm chasing the dreams that people are too scared to go after. I've found that most of my dreams make people laugh a little. It's funny, because as I go down my list checking some stuff off, I can't help but to have the last laugh. I'm an amateur writer pursuing a career in Broadcast Journalism at California State University Northridge. My ultimate goal is to become a TV host / reporter within the music entertainment business. I hope that one day I can work with all the people who have inspired and triggered my dreams.

I'm a very passionate person, so I rely on good music to soothe my soul and keep me sane. I love a fine beat, but excellent lyrics are something I can't get enough of. I feel like that is the big reason why music has played such a huge role in my life because it involves writing your heart out through a tune. I often explain the significance of music in my life as "my backbone" because it is the second form of anything in this world that helps me keep it together. Music and writing walk together holding hands in my life; they are what keep me motivated, secure, and grounded at all times. I'm a huge fan of legends such as Michael Jackson to the newest phenomenon Drake.

Aside from music and writing, my family is an essential part of my life. Growing up with no fatherly figure was often a challenge. I never had the unconditional love from a man that would allow me to feel safe and reassured about myself. However, I was more than fortunate to live my life following the steps of a woman who not only sacrificed her time and money for me, but also her life ... my mother. I owe her my life as she molded me into the woman I am today, a woman with values and strong morals.

The number three has always had a significant meaning in my life because it was constantly my mom, brother, and I going through life, facing each obstacle and standing together. Now my family has grown by two, with my stepdad and stepsister coming to join us in the picture. My new family has become my biggest supporters, insuring my well being and my dreams. I am eternally grateful to God for blessing me with such individuals, those I can call my family.

I'm still finding myself, learning new things, growing, and evolving because there's always room for improvement in every aspect of my life. I want to be a better writer, a better friend, a better daughter ... but most importantly, a better me. My goals and talents are meant to be shared with the world so that I may leave a little piece of me behind. My only desire is to continue to blossom into half the woman my mother is because ... that would be simply magical.
